Foods to Avoid on a Diet
It’s no secret that losing weight is hard. It can be even harder if you have no idea what you’re doing or where to even start! It’s time to stop making excuses and actually start on your health journey. Eating salad everyday can get monotonous and you might end up binging on unhealthy foods. Just remember to keep a balanced diet and don’t restrict yourself from indulging every once in a while.
- Oils
Using olive oil for cooking can be more harmful to your diet than you think. Two tablespoons of olive oil is already 400 calories! Using oil not only adds more fat to your food but it’s not good for your body either. Instead of using olive oil to cook up your veggies, try using just water! Works just as well as oil and your body will thank you!
- Sugar
Sugar is hidden in so many foods we eat on an everyday basis and most of the time we don’t even notice. Even barbecue sauce can have sugar in it! Cutting down a little bit every day on sugar can go a long way. Do you have a diet soda more than you’d like to admit? Switch it out for a water with lemon or other fruit. It’ll hydrate you and conquer your sweet tooth.
- Nuts
Nuts have a lot of fat content. Two tablespoons of peanut butter is already 200 calories and 24% of your daily amount of fat. I’m guilty of eating peanut butter straight out of the jar but peanuts (or any other kind of nut) shouldn’t be a part of your everyday food choices.
- Fats
Cheese, bacon and butter are among the fattiest foods we put into our bodies on a daily basis. Sometimes all we want is a slice of pizza but the fat in the cheese is not doing your diet any good. Try getting pizza without the cheese! Just piles tons of healthy toppings on like spinach or pineapple and you won’t even miss the cheese!
- Salt
Salt is a hidden ingredient in many foods. We eat it without even noticing and then put on water weight. When we eat salt it dehydrates our body so that when we drink water our body tries to hold on to the water it gets so that it can keep your body running. Ever wonder why you get so thirsty the day after you ate that Chinese takeout?
- White carbs
I know that you know white carbs aren’t good for you. I’m talking about white bread, white pasta and white rice. Yes, these taste a lot better than whole wheat pasta and brown rice but white carbs don’t fill you up as fast. In the end you just end up eating way more than you intended.
- Milk
Cow’s milk has so many unnecessary fats and calories. One cup of milk is already over 100 calories! Almond milk is a great alternative that has more calcium and only 30 calories for one cup. If almond milk isn’t your thing then try rice milk, oat milk, cashew milk or even hemp milk.
Overall, to succeed in losing weight it’s all about balance. Shedding those extra pounds is 20% working out and 80% diet. Fueling your body with what it needs will help you get to your goal. Try following a few Instagram accounts or blogs to help motivate you! Healthy food can taste good you just have to know how to prepare it.
